What did Jesus say about Death?

John 12:24 “Truly, truly, I say unto you, except a kernel of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone, but if it dies, it bears much fruit.”

Jesus said emphatically, “Truly, truly,” a kernel of wheat must die to bear fruit. If it does not die, it does not bear fruit. Jesus said very clearly, if you want to bear fruit you must die. And if you think he was talking about the kind of fruit that grows on trees, then John 12:25 clears up that misunderstanding.

John 12:25 “He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.”

There it is, as plain as the nose on your face: If you want to have life eternal in Heaven with Jesus you must “fall into the ground and die”.

Matthew 16:25 “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.”

Luke17:33 “Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.”

John 12:25 “He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.”

Those are just three verses that state very clearly: If you want to go to Heaven, do not try to save our life in this world. When your time comes to die, pick up your cross and go to Jesus.

Jesus didn’t try to save his life in this world. He hoisted that cross onto his shoulder and walked to his death. He stumbled. He fell. He stood up. He fell again. He stood up. He fell again. He stood up again and through the blood and the sweat he kept walking to Cavalry.

With his death only hours away, Jesus said, “For this cause came I unto this hour.”

John 12:27 “Now my soul is troubled but what shall I say? Father save me from this hour? But for this cause came I unto this hour.”

John 12:26 “If any man serve me, let him follow me, and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honor.”

Jesus came to teach us by example that you can only enter the Kingdom of God by dying: “Truly, truly, I say unto you, except a kernel of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone, but if it dies, it bears much fruit.”

What a terrible pity if his lesson was lost on you.

John 12:22-27 Jesus answered them, saying, “The hour has come that the Son of man should be glorified. Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a kernel of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it abides alone: but if it dies it brings forth much fruit. He that loves his life shall lose it and he that hates his life in this world shall keep it until life eternal. If any man serves me, let him follow me and where I am there also my servant shall be. if any man serves me, him will my Father honor. now is my soul troubled but what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour? But for this cause came I unto this hour.”

Jesus referred to the hour of his death as the hour of his glorification. His soul was not troubled by the thought of death, but by the type of death he would have to endure. He did not ask his Father to intervene because dying was the example he had set for mankind: “For this cause came I unto this hour.”
